Dongfeng’s Huawei-backed M-Hero X700 raises NZ launch question
Dongfeng’s Huawei-equipped M-Hero X700 has launched in China, prompting questions about whether its off-road sub-brand could eventually come to New Zealand.

Dongfeng’s M-Hero X700 has launched in China with Huawei driver-assistance and infotainment technology. Its arrival raises a local question: could Dongfeng’s off-road sub-brand eventually join the company’s New Zealand operation?

A new flagship for Dongfeng’s off-road brand
The X700 is the first model in M-Hero’s new X series. It launched in China on 25 October, following pre-sales in September. The SUV combines Huawei’s Qiankun ADS 5 driver-assistance system with HarmonySpace 6, and is offered with range-extender and plug-in hybrid powertrains.
Dongfeng’s launch material lists a 68.1kWh battery and up to 360km of electric range on China’s CLTC test cycle. That figure is not directly comparable with New Zealand’s WLTP range figures.

Could M-Hero come to New Zealand?
Dongfeng is already represented here by Armstrong’s, but its New Zealand website currently lists three models: the Box, Vigo and 007. All are sold locally under the Dongfeng name. At the brand’s NZ launch, M-Hero was identified as one of Dongfeng’s off-road-focused sub-brands with export ambitions.
There is no confirmed NZ launch, local specification or pricing for the X700. Its arrival would mark a move from Dongfeng’s current electric-car line-up into a premium off-road category, but that remains a possibility rather than an announced plan.
The question for Kiwi buyers is whether Dongfeng’s local distributor will take that next step as the parent company expands its range overseas.
