Nissan will add a plug-in hybrid Navara to its New Zealand line-up in 2027, making it the brand’s first electrified ute and first PHEV for the local market. Australia and New Zealand are set to be the first right-hand-drive markets to receive it.

The Oceania version pairs a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine with an electric motor integrated into an eight-speed automatic transmission. Nissan gives preliminary combined outputs of 300kW and 800Nm, subject to final homologation. It says the ute will retain a mechanical 4x4 system and differential-lock capability, with a claimed 3,500kg braked towing capacity and payload of up to 1,000kg, both subject to final approval.

Those figures put the Navara Pro PHEV squarely into the conversation with buyers who need a work ute to tow and carry loads, but want an electrified option. Nissan says development testing in Australia has covered suspension, tyres, towing, load performance and driver-assistance calibration for local conditions. Vehicle-to-load power is also planned.

There are still important gaps. The battery size, EV-only range, final equipment and price have not been announced, and Nissan says the final suspension configuration for New Zealand will be confirmed closer to sales.

Nissan says further details will arrive closer to the Navara Pro PHEV’s 2027 launch.
