Mazda's updated MX-5 range adds manual Roadster SP from $51,990

Mazda’s refreshed MX-5 range gives buyers a new way into the two-seat roadster: the Roadster SP, a manual soft-top priced at $51,990. It joins the Roadster Takami and RF Homura in a three-grade New Zealand line-up, with the revised models expected to arrive from October 2026.
The SP keeps the MX-5’s naturally aspirated 2.0-litre engine, rated at 135kW and 205Nm, with a six-speed manual transmission. Mazda lists a recommended retail price of $51,990 including GST, excluding on-road costs and premium paint. It gets a black fabric roof, 17-inch black metallic wheels and cloth-trimmed sports seats.
The Roadster Takami is the more focused manual option at $61,990, adding Recaro leather-and-Alcantara seats, BBS forged wheels, Brembo brakes and Bilstein dampers. The RF Homura is also $61,990 and pairs its retractable hardtop with a six-speed automatic, heated leather-trimmed seats and Bose audio.
Across the refreshed range, Mazda says Lane Keep Assist is now standard, the Smart City Brake System adds pedestrian and cyclist detection, and the centre display gains touchscreen functionality. Those changes bring more active assistance and easier screen control while retaining the compact, rear-drive roadster format.
The SP’s price opens a lower entry point than the other listed grades, though buyers should compare on-road costs and paint options before treating it as an on-road price.
Mazda says the updated range is expected to reach New Zealand from October 2026.
