Chery’s new Lepas brand has confirmed it will enter New Zealand with the all-electric L6 SUV. It gives the group another nameplate in the competitive mid-size electric SUV class, alongside its Chery, Omoda and Jaecoo brands.
The L6’s Australian specification pairs a 65kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery with a 160kW front-mounted electric motor producing 275Nm. Lepas quotes a 440km range on the WLTP test cycle and says a 30 to 80 per cent DC charge takes about 22 minutes. These are Australian-market figures; New Zealand details may differ.
Equipment listed for Australia includes a 13.2-inch central touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, heated and ventilated front seats, a panoramic roof and eight-speaker Sony audio. It is a well-equipped spec sheet, but price will shape how the newcomer stacks up against established electric SUVs.
Lepas confirmed to EVs and Beyond that the L6 is coming to New Zealand, with timing still to be announced. NZ pricing, trim levels, final range and equipment are also yet to be confirmed.
The L6 will open Lepas’s local lineup, but it remains unclear when the new badge will arrive in showrooms.
